KISTI signed an academic and research exchange agreement with the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM). The two institutes will jointly develop data-driven AI models, with KIOM contributing its Korean medicine data and KISTI its AI training expertise and infrastructure, and will share the models that result. The agreement also covers joint research and publication, researcher exchange, and cooperation on AI and big-data infrastructure, and runs for an initial three years.
We took part in AI4Sci Korea 2026, the first edition of the conference, held September 27 to October 1 at Seoul Dragon City under the theme of autonomous research agents and AI-driven scientific discovery.
At the KISTI booth we demonstrated a working prototype of KONI-Scientist, our autonomous research agent, walking visitors through how it takes a research question and carries it through to analysis. We also introduced the rest of the KONI products to the researchers and industry visitors who stopped by.
We were invited to a two-day joint workshop with LLMC (Research and Development Center for Large Language Models), part of Japan's NII (National Institute of Informatics), held in Tokyo on August 27–28. We shared KISTI's work on AI for Science and AI-driven R&D administration, and both sides are exploring research collaboration.
We presented our latest technological advancements at KDD 2026, the premier global conference on data mining and artificial intelligence, held August 9–13 at ICC Jeju.
At this year's corporate exhibition, the KISTI Large-scale AI Research Center highlighted an end-to-end ecosystem designed to accelerate scientific discovery, automate research workflows, and streamline large language model operations.
Beyond standalone agents, we shared our progress in building an open-science platform for researchers and industry partners worldwide — including multimodal LLM (MLLM) architectures for complex document understanding, advanced parameter-efficient fine-tuning (PEFT) techniques, and large-scale scientific dataset preprocessing pipelines.

KISTI's Division of AI and Data signed a multi-party memorandum of understanding led by the Republic of Korea Army Logistics Command, joining partner organizations to help build an AI system for the Army and keep improving it over time. Under the agreement, our role is LLM development and performance-enhancement support built on KISTI's AI training infrastructure. The MOU runs for an initial three years.
